Hi J_baby, I had a very successful career in events as a lighting designed, audio engineer, vision switcher, cameraman, rigger and organiser. My current career is in the public service an Australia. I have difficulty remembering numbers and words and use a note book diligently. I have run teams of up to 30 people on various projects. The key is to be organised and to rely on processes and systems. Any difficulties I have had due to aphantasia I have been able to find solutions and ways of working to accommodate. I find I am more diligent when looking at information and providing quality assurance because I do not remember and scrutinise closer than other people.
Hi J_baby, I am an avid chess player. I'm not the best, but I can best most people I know. When I play chess I have an idea of what I want to do and attempt to make it happen. I look at all the pieces and where they can move and where they can move from there. I look at the board like a battle field and the pieces are the troops. I try to create troop formations and not leave troops without support. I do not see the strategy in my head I see it on the board. When things don't go the way I want I can change strategy as I go and adapt. I hope that helps. Cheers
Hi Victoria, I come from a line of artists, however I cannot draw or paint. The best I can do is stick figures unless I am copying directly and with extreme concentration. I am however creative in other ways, I studied dancing (ballroom and rock& Roll), music (including violin, piano and guitar), writing (mainly poetry), acting and singing. I am also creative in the kitchen. I have been a sound engineer, lighting designer, a vision mixer and cameraman for live events. I love/hate reading (I have Dyslexia) and mainly use audio books (since their discovery). Feel free to reach out at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Hi Ben, I am 42 years old and found out I have aphantasia yesterday. I was always perplexed when people would say, 'don't think about a purple rhinosoros' trying to get you to do so. I would be 'ok, no issue there'. I also found it annoying in meditation when people would get you to visualise stuff and nothing would come, just blackness. I honestly thought everyone was just faking the experience. For me, I was astonished to find out that most people CAN visualise things.
