Awesome, I'll definitely try this out this week and try to carve out some storytelling memorization techniques... That makes a lot of sense, though, I used to make little songs to remember important historical dates/places/times. Thank you for that!
That made me sad to read :( I don't think it's weird to be the best in the room at conceptualizing when everyone else is stuck seeing imagined things. It just means your bound to not be constricted to the reach of a visual image and you can think beyond the pictures other people are replaying around you.
Five years ago when I was 22 and heard it on a podcast where they were like "Get this, some people can't picture that red bucket" and I was like, wait, why are they saying that? Then I called everyone I knew and demanded them to explain the way their mind worked when their eyes were closed, if it was just black with thoughts, etc.
This is beautifully described. I imagine things quite similarly, though I would say its more of a web of information that branches out, almost like water solidifying into ice as a snowflake where the details become more defined and known the longer I focus on it, but without any narrative or imagery attached to it unless I'm actively considering a question about the information to myself.
Hello Victoria, I am Kristylynn. I'm currently working on a degree in New Media Art at SUNY Purchase. I'm also very interested in meeting other artists/musicians/writers who have aphantasia, and I'm open to sharing my experiences and stories. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find much research in my personal studies, though if you're doing future research I'm willing to help as a participant.
