The Four‑Factor Imagination Scale

Assess four aspects of imagination—Frequency, Complexity, Emotional Valence, and Directedness—through a series of self‑report items.

How does your imagination work?

The Four‑Factor Imagination Scale (FFIS) assesses four distinct aspects of imagination:

  • Frequency: How often you engage in imaginative thinking
  • Complexity: How detailed and intricate your imaginings are
  • Emotional Valence: The emotional tone of your imaginings
  • Directedness: How purposeful or goal‑oriented your imaginings are

Note: This is not a diagnostic tool, but part of research on imagery experiences (aphantasia, hyperphantasia).

Instructions: Read each statement below and select how accurately it describes you, from Very inaccurate (1) to Very accurate (6). There are no right or wrong answers—be honest.
