Joined over 4 years agoI dreamt as a child and then not so much moving into my adult years, I noticed as well my dreams become less colourful when I got older and then about 10 years ago around the age of 30, I stopped dreaming altogether except for a very vivid dream or several over a week or two every few years. When I close my eyes and try to "see and image" there is nothing but black and it has been this way my entire life, I thought this was Everyones experience.
I only just discovered this today. I watched a video on Youtube about Aphantasia because I had not heard of the word before and was curious as to what it was, about halfway through I realised this was my experience as well. I am still processing the fact that People actually "see things" in Their Minds Eye! I am 40. Like Others who have shared Their experiences, I always thought visulising things in your "Minds Eye" was metaphorical and that you couldn't actually see anything when you tried to visulise with your eyes closed- I just see black no matter how hard I try to "see" an image in my mind. I can recall and imagine things but there is not imagery in my mind attached to this, I relate to the experience of "knowing" I am imagining drawing something, or recalling something from memory though. I dreamt as a child, then not so much as an adult and I noticed my dreams lacked colours in the way they used to at one point, then about 10 years ago now I stopped dreaming most of the time, every now and then I will have an extremely vivid dream or a sequence of dreams over a week or two, this happens every few years on average.I find it quite interesting to discover this about Myself and Others, I wonder what I am missing out on in many ways as the ability to actually see things when you close your eyes seems quite amazing.
