My story is a bit embarrassing. I just discovered that I have aphantasia ... and I'm 36 ... and a PhD student at Yale studying cognitive psychology and philosophy .... specifically, on visual perception and cognition. It's bad enough that I hadn't even heard of aphantasia earlier, but that I didn't even realize that I had it (or perhaps more correctly, that everyone DIDN'T have it). I got a few good hints when I ran as a subject for some colleagues' experiments on visual imagery and completely failed most of the tasks, as well as with talking to my advisers about the phenomenology of perception. I’d really like to run some experiments on aphantasia in the near future; I just need to get a good subject pool together. I just found this website and I might use it to recruit some people!
