I don't know if other people with Aphantasia do this but the way I remember things is through facts. Otherwise, I don't think I'd have a memory. So like, I know Darth Vader is Luke's father (not a spoiler at this point, let's be honest) so if I rewatched that scene, I'm gonna know that's what happens so it won't exactly be like watching the film for the first time again. But I won't be able to picture it happening so there is some level of excitement there. However, as soon as it does happen, I tend to think "oh yeah, I remember this bit happening now".

I find it tricky to remember plots, but as I'm watching I tend to recall details or what happens. The other thing I find is sometimes I find it difficult to know which character is which at the start or put the character's name with their face

I have pretty bad memory overall and, with exceptions to movies I've seen multiple times or that have left a massive impact on me - I can forget just about everything. That said, as I watch, i'll usually remember a lot of it as I go.

I kind of know what you mean, I guess because we cannot visualise anything we are just relying on our memory. For instance, Sixth Sense, I know he's dead (plot reveal :) ), and a few of the other details of the film, for example the people hanging in the school (I think), and about his wife, but as I watch it I generally don't remember whats going to happen.Question: Same or different for reading a book that is not so visual?

Yes - I'm the same. I don't know whether that's aphantasia, or SDAM.

I have a slightly related problem in the other direction that makes it pretty difficukt to watch movies now. The first time I see a actor in a movie, my mind cements that character as who "they" are. If I see a actor outside of a movie, I'll think of the original character. When I see that character in another movie, I compare their current acting to their previous character. I've pretty much stopped watching movies outside of what my friends and family want to see becaue it is so distracting
